A little behind

Well, not too much so but in the past week quite a few things happened and Im just putting this in as a summary. Pictures and so on will come a bit later. First things first, I finished the wood wing rib that I was working on in class. I will be posting a series of pictures displaying the stages in which it was built!

This last week was Thanksgiving break and it was good to have some time off from school. Mercedes came back on Tuesday and probably took her 6 hours due to snow in the passes and huge backups. Thursday we had thanksgiving dinner at Nathan and Krystals place and it was a very good meal. I wasnt able to eat too much though, but it led to some good leftovers!

The highlight of the week had to be Saturday. Kathryn had wanted to go to the Kirkland tree lighting so I went along. She dressed Oscar up in a Santa suit and Sadie had a little T-shirt that says " Sorry Santa, I ate all the cookies" which she would definitely do if given the opportunity. Many people were excited to see them walking around and it was fun to see their reactions when the spotted Oscar and Sadie. The tree lighting part of the event was very fun, but the announcer really REALLY wanted to make it drag on. One announcement after another... and rambling delayed it but finally they lit the tree. Once again Kathryn has the photos so I suggest checking out her blogs! Afterward we went on a quick walk along the waterfront at Marina Park and thought it may just be a great spot for viewing New Years fireworks at the Space Needle from a distance... hmmm

Toy Story!

So after working at the doggie daycare, Kathryn and I went to the Toy Story 3 on ice at Everett Comcast arena and it was absolutely amazing! It was loosely based around Toy story 3 where Andy was getting ready to put the toys in the attic, so the toys got out and started reminiscing about their adventures. ( Basically this was an excuse to show the favorite moments and toys from the first 2 movies!) Some favorite parts where when emperor zerg came to fight buzz, "When she loved me" song and the aliens that worship the claw! Kathryn once again has all the pictures because her camera is just that great! Mine would have taken super dark and grainy pictures and probably would have run out of space and battery too quickly. It turned out to be a perfect evening, couldnt have turned out any better!

Working Interview!

So today after school I got to finally meet Michelle and the other workers at the Academy of Canine Behavior and then got to play with the dogs in the daycare building! This work interview is 3 days, I'll continue it on Monday and Tuesday to basically get the hang of what my duties will be while I'm there! I can see why Kathryn likes the place so much! The moment I got inside the play area I was surrounded by dogs all wanting to play. Its a busy job but a lot of fun! I see myself become a whole ton more active should this translate into an official job
( which I expect it to)
Honestly its great to be doing something and actually earning money!

Doggie Day Care!

So Im sure you have already seen many times I say how amazing Kathryn is, and this is yet another example!

So I have been looking for work for the better part of a year, but many factors are working against me in this regard. First and most obvious is the economy, but thats not all of it. Next I dont actually have any full time or part time work experience. Although I have many many volunteer activities, and 2 seasons of helping UPS drivers as the dude that rides in the seat and runs packages to doors while he gets the next set ready... I have nothing as true documented full time work experience. Another problem is my school schedule.... its Monday-Friday from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm (typically) and not many jobs were too enthusiastic with hiring someone able to work from approx. 3pm and on. Last but not least... not too many places are happy with my choice not to work on Sundays... which is a shame.

I had mentioned this to Kathryn probably more times than she probably cared to hear but we were both kind of stuck with trying to find any kind of work that would help us with our various expenses ( school for me). Kathryn had talked about her times at the Academy of Canine Behavior and at the time, I enjoyed the stories but didnt really apply them to myself possibly working there.... Well recently her brother Dan, who works there mentioned that someone from the evening shift ( pretty much 3pm til 7 ish---- perfect!) would be leaving soon and that position opening. Kathryn remembered this and talked to him to have him refer me to his boss.

Well I recieved the call today about 15 minutes before I had lunch and by the afternoon when I returned from school I was able to call back and now I have scheduled a working interview tomorrow at 3:00! It seems like I will have 3 days of working interviews to see if they want to keep me! All of this wouldnt have been possible had Kathryn not remembered and Dan hadnt mentioned that! Its funny too, because Dan's boss said that she was confident Dan wouldnt just recommend anyone that he didnt want to work with so I am glad I have his confidence too!

Thank you Kathryn and Dan, I love your family!

Crushed rib!!!

Oh no!!!! no no no!!! So the wood wing rib I have been working on at school has been crushed and ruined at the trailing edge!!

for a project

Yep, after we spend many heartbreaking hours painstakingly putting together this nice little clark Y rib design.... our next project is to accomplish a repair on a wooden wing rib, compliments of our previous projects of drafting and lofting a complete rib. So for my repair, as I wanted to keep my rib as display ready as possible, the instructor took a hammer and chisel to the trailing edge and crushed the wood there. This is what I got to work on today, and most of tomorrow by the looks of it. Pics are on my facebook of the rib before it was heartlessly mutilated!

A quick summary

So now that I have started a blog I figured it would be good to do a quick... ish summary of what has happened since I returned from Japan so here goes!

After returning to home I went back to Central Washington University but without much of an idea as to what I was going to major in. I was thinking about something to do with becoming a Commercial Pilot or failing that something to do with Japanese language. During this time I also did some temporary jobs with UPS during the Christmas season helping the drivers deliver packages. It was a lot of fun but also hard work and it tired me out! After going back for a full year at Central I still really hadn't progressed towards anything completely useful. With that I returned home for summer ( 2010).

I wanted to do the commercial pilot program but without financial aid it would have been impossible. At the time it would have cost not only tuition and housing, which for 4 years would have racked up $60,000 at the time, but the program had additional costs to include fuel, plane rental/ maintenance fees totaling another $60,000. $120,000 didnt seem worth the effort so I scrapped the idea. Sadly Japanese major didnt seem extraordinarily useful (in terms of a useful job that I would enjoy) so I was literally stuck without an idea of what I should do. I have to admit I wasnt really looking foward to heading back to school and wasting another year. I find it highly annoying that Jr high and High school set you up to believe you have absolutely essential to head to college, and I went mostly because I wanted some kind of chance at work. What a waste of time and money. Now that everyone in the world has a college education only names that stand out and overly expensive colleges seem viable to stick out as a possible hire.

Anyways while being troubled about all this, an odd little class schedule from Everett Community College came in our mail, with a picture and advertisement about becoming an AMT ( aircraft maintenance technician) which caught my interest. My dad insisted that I check out an information session so I did, and at this point I started considering going to school for becoming an aircraft mechanic.

I spent a couple weeks debating if I should drop Central Washington University for this technical vocation. Should I have decided to stay at Central I would have had probably 3 or so more years before even getting close to a Major to graduate with, and seeing as how hardly any majors offered at central really picked up my interest I would have had a hard time figuring out what in the world I would even want to accomplish there. This would have cost a ton more money for no visible or special reward. I would have really loved to become a pilot but scholarships were scarce, and Id rather have not racked up a $120,000 debt and spent another 4 years of my life. Going to EvCC meant a 2 year program going through both summers and obtaining a license after those 2 years and the FAA tests. It would cost a ton less, I could stay at home ( thus saving on insane housing prices) and it was at least working with airplanes.

Still I couldnt really decide what I wanted to do until one day while working at the Evergreen state fair, Mercedes said " You could go to school for that and get a job and save to become a pilot." I had to agree that, while I may not ever get a commercial pilot license and fly a super awesome jet.... I could at least save to get a private pilots license, the next best thing I guess.

I applied to Everett Community College and was accepted shortly after. I was still reluctant to drop out of Central Washington University, I had everything lined up, classes chosen and housing. It was a very hard phone call to make.
In order to enter the Aviation Maintenance classes I had to obtain instructor permission codes and so my dad had a crazy idea to stop by the hangar where the classes are to see If we could randomly catch an instructor. I doubted it would work considering the faculty was on their Summer break, but my dad insisted. We went and as we got there and knocked on the door, the head of the program walked out ( literally had we been 2 minutes later he would have been gone) and got the codes... in the nick of time. Time enough to drop all of central washington university with no penalty fees or anything silly like that.

In September 2010 I started my training to become a licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic, hence my blog heading of AMT in training!

At the beginning of Janruary 2011 my grandpa, SM Richardson passed away, and it was a hard time. I think the worst part of it all was not being able to go with my parents to Utah to witness the funeral. At the very least I was able to see him shortly after he passed. It was very hard for me to not be able to go, especially being left at home alone. I do have to say that this ultimately led me to the best times I have lived since my mission, and that was meeting Kathryn!

I wont lie that at the time my parents left I was getting very lonely and somewhat depressed. All my friends were elsewhere and doing other things, Jason was super busy with school and work, others were at college and basically everything I knew around home was pretty much gone. It was near this time, in fact February 16th, one day before my birthday that I was able to talk to Kathryn and this has led to some of the best experiences I have ever had. She has really helped make my life greater and more enjoyable! We have done so many things together its impossible to remember them and all their details. I have loved it so much I have tried to write down as many of the things we have done together and hope to assemble them all from the lined paper to a real journal! Kathryn has been wonderful and kept a blog on many of the activities so I recommend checking those out on her " Animal Lover" blog on the right! ( btw check out her photography blog! )

Sorry about the CRAZY long explanation but I felt it would be good to put somewhere as to how I have arrived at where I am now in terms of school, relationships and life in general. I cant help but be thankful for everything that has worked out to my good, I cant help but realize just how lucky I was with meeting Kathryn and getting to know just how wonderful and amazing she is!  愛 ! 愛!

Ideally my blog posts will be massively shorter now that I have caught up with the basics. Now I can report individual events!

And so it begins

After participating in many many fun events, I felt Facebook wasnt quite the place to describe them in detail, as the "whats on your mind" seems more like a quick line than an all out description with pictures. Kathryn has many blogs and I felt inspired to start my own so here it is! Pictures and lots of stories to come!
